Every song tells a story. Maybe one of them is yours.

Biography

Founded in 2008 by vocalist and guitarist Joel Pratt, Approaching Autumn is an American metalcore band from Flint, Michigan, built on one simple belief: every song tells a story.

Following the breakup of Pratt’s former band, With A Kiss, he set out to create something different—a band unrestricted by trends, formulas, or expectations. The goal was never simply to write heavy music, but to create songs that people could genuinely connect with through life’s highest highs and darkest lows.

After several years of performing throughout Michigan, Approaching Autumn went on hiatus in 2011. Nearly a decade later, the band reunited in 2020 with a renewed vision, using the time to write new music and redefine the sound that would shape the band’s next chapter.

Today, every Approaching Autumn song is rooted in real life. Whether exploring mental health, loss, relationships, hope, or personal struggle, the band’s music is written with one purpose—to remind listeners they are never alone. Every lyric, every melody, and every breakdown is crafted to connect with someone who needs to hear it.

That connection has fueled the band’s rapid growth since returning to the stage. In just three years, Approaching Autumn has appeared on television and radio, performed sold-out shows, and shared the stage with nationally recognized artists including Papa Roach, Bilmuri, Set It Off, Silent Planet, Escape The Fate, Napalm Death, Bloodywood, Red, Eva Under Fire, Filth, and more while continuing to expand their reach across the United States.

Their latest full-length album, Death, continues the band’s commitment to honest storytelling, blending crushing riffs, soaring melodies, and emotionally driven songwriting into a sound that is both powerful and deeply personal. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Known for their energetic, high-impact live performances, Approaching Autumn delivers more than a concert—they create an experience. Every show is designed to leave audiences feeling stronger than when they arrived, proving that heavy music can be both an escape and a source of empowerment.

With new music on the horizon and an ambitious touring schedule ahead, Approaching Autumn continues to expand its reach across the United States and beyond while remaining committed to the mission that started it all: creating music that helps people face whatever life puts in front of them.
